A survey conducted by DS Automobiles, a luxury brand owned by Stellantis, found that drivers of electric and hybrid cars feel less stress behind the wheel than those who drive combustion or diesel cars.

In the survey of 2,000 drivers in the UK, more than 78% of respondents said they had experienced fatigue while driving. But 38% of electric or hybrid car owners said their current vehicle makes them less stressed than petrol models.

“Driving can sometimes be stressful as it is fun, but one of the many benefits of switching to electric is that it can help drivers feel more relaxed behind the wheel.” , Jules Tilstone.

Among those who claimed to suffer from stress, 31% acknowledged its negative impact on their ability to drive. The problem is that nervous drivers, according to DS research, are more likely to make hasty decisions and pay less attention to potential hazards. This highlights the importance of good cabin environment – a detail that 20% of drivers say they look for in a new car.

Also according to the survey, 41% of respondents rated “calm and refined leadership” as the number one resource in reducing stress. However, more than half (52%) cited interior space and comfortable seating as the most effective features in combating crowding.

The lack of engine noise in electric cars (and hybrids when in battery mode) makes a big difference compared to their gasoline predecessors. Electric cars make almost no noise at lower speeds, and in this sense, a smoother, vibration-free driving experience helps nervous drivers spend less annoying moments in traffic. Even because, according to a DS survey, 51% of respondents said they found the general experience of buying and owning a car stressful. Having an electric car, at least because of that, helps a lot.
