A group of pro-Palestine demonstrators staged violent protests during the opening ceremony of the Holocaust Museum in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, on Sunday (10).

The demonstration coincided with the visit of Israeli President Isaac Herzog, who took the opportunity to ask for prayers for peace and the release of hostages who had been under the control of terrorists in Gaza since the October 7, 2023 attack.

According to information from the Argentine portal informationThe protests intensified as demonstrators threw fireworks and eggs at police and attempted to climb on top of police vehicles. Tensions escalated when a group carrying Israeli flags and pictures of hostages confronted pro-Palestinian demonstrators, prompting police to intervene to calm the situation.

In his speech during the opening of the museum, Herzog stressed the need to combat hatred and anti-Semitism at the global level.

“[…] “Right now, hatred and anti-Semitism are thriving all over the world and we must fight them together,” the Israeli president said from the scene, calling for the “immediate and safe return” of hostages captured by Hamas and praying for peace. “
