Portuguese police identify six suspects of attacking Brazilians

The victims will go to the police station to identify the suspects on Friday (5). This information was published by the lawyer of the Brazilians who were attacked, Ludmila Poirier.

The attack happened after a party. The two Brazilians are cultural producer and doctoral student Bruno Cesar Marcelino, 31, who has been living in Porto for two months, and chef Kaiqui Soares, 23. They went to a party in Case de Gaia, a touristy and bohemian area in Vila Nova de Gaia, the neighboring city. At approximately three o'clock in the morning, they left the place. The attacks occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Avenida Diogo Light, according to Public Security Police.

The suspects demanded money before attacking the Brazilians. According to the victims, a group of about ten young men, mostly white, including a woman with a Portuguese accent, surrounded by cans and bottles, asked them for 10 euros (53 Brazilian reals). Bruno and Kaike said they would not donate money, and since then, they began receiving punches and kicks in the face and legs.

The victim believes in homophobia or xenophobia. Marcelino said UOL The criminals did not even try to steal them, and their only intention was to beat them. Since the cultural producer and Soares were holding hands at the time of the approach, Marcelino suspects that the reason was discrimination against homosexuals, homophobia or xenophobia. Today, it is believed that there is no connection to racism. Their lawyer realizes that the true motive will be discovered as the investigation progresses.

“[Pedir dinheiro] It was just a reason to step up. Punch in the face. We tried to escape, to escape. Then they pulled me out of my hat. This is where I fell. Music producer Bruno Marcelino said: “When I fell, they started punching me and kicking me in the head.”

The Brazilian criticizes the police delay

Marcelino says it took a long time for police to approach the group of youth. When the police arrived, they found only six suspects who had beaten the Brazilians.
