A police helicopter joined a massive manhunt on Tuesday morning after four young friends went missing on a camping trip in north Wales.

Jevon Hirst, Harvey Owen, Wilf Henderson and Hugo Morris went missing on Sunday morning. They were last seen together in a silver Ford Fiesta. Locals said a police helicopter had been searching above Penrhyndeudraeth and in Nantmor and Beddgelert but had not found them.

None of them are in touch with friends and family and all their phones are switched off. “I’m sick,” Harvey’s mother wrote in a desperate plea for information online on Facebook. “One of these boys is my son Harvey, please share and tag anyone in Wales or contact any information you have.”

Wilf’s girlfriend’s mother Lisa Garfield wrote on the social media site on Monday. “My daughter’s boyfriend was the first guy. They missed home after camping yesterday and had to go back but haven’t been seen or heard from since. Please share with as many people as possible so we can try to get them home safely. Thank you.”

Police and mountain rescue teams have launched an urgent mega search operation to trace the group and are appealing for any information.
