The Russian Defense Ministry, in a statement, held Ukraine responsible for the attacks. Kiev, so far, has remained silent.
To Vladimir Putin’s surprise, Ukraine decided not only to continue defending itself against the Russian invasion, but also to carry out a surprise incursion—now in its third week—across the border by Ukrainian forces into the Kursk and Belgorod regions.
The Russian government warned in May that it had shot down a drone on the outskirts of Moscow, affecting two of the city’s main airports. Since 2022, Ukrainians have used drones to attack Russian oil and gas facilities, claiming it was in retaliation for Moscow’s attempts to destroy Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
Last weekend, Ukrainian drones attacked an oil storage site in the Rostov region.
On Wednesday, a missile was shot down in the Rostov region.
While Kyiv remains silent, Volodymyr Zelensky’s government announced that its forces had struck an S-300 anti-aircraft missile complex in Rostov, Russia. “It should be noted that Russian attackers also use S-300 systems to launch attacks on peaceful cities in Ukraine, destroying residential buildings and terrorizing the civilian population,” the Ukrainian military said in a statement.
