Recently, a technical committee of seven specialists was formed in Brazil to monitor cases of the disease that have already been recorded in Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Sweden, Germany, Israel and Australia. On another occasion, in an interview with UOLVirologist Gillian Trindade, who is part of the group, warned of an “imminent danger” of the virus reaching the country, but stressed there was “no reason to panic”.

After progressing the issues and the formation of the temporary technical room of the MCTI Network (Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation), the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) made recommendations to try to delay the arrival of the virus in Brazil. Monkeypox has been around in parts of Africa for decades, and the new wave of cases is causing concern. It is from the same family as the classic smallpox, it was eradicated worldwide in 1980, and it is a zoonotic virus, that is, it is transmitted from animals to humans.
