McDonald’s launches first plant-based burger in UK and Ireland

McDonald’s has launched its first plant-based burger in UK and Irish restaurants. Dubbed the McPlant, the burger took more than three years to develop in collaboration with Beyond Meat.

Before launch, it was tested in more than 250 restaurants in 2022 #McPlant is everywhereMcDonald’s invited celebrities including actress and presenter Rosie Ramsey, actor Simon Gregson and boxer Lawrence Okolie to sample the new menu.

“Our McPlant is officially everywhere and we’re excited to have it available for our customers to enjoy. It’s our same signature flavor – but plant-based,” says Michelle Graham-Clare, Marketing Director of McDonald’s UK and Ireland.

Special product

In addition to the plant-based burger, the McPlant is served with pea protein-based vegan cheese, a fresh vegan sandwich sauce, a vegan sesame seed bun, mustard, ketchup, fresh onions, pickles, lettuce and tomato.

It is prepared using special utensils that set it apart from other McDonald’s burgers and sandwiches.

Currently, McPlant is served in Denmark, UK, Ireland and Austria. In 2022, the sandwich will be tested in select North American markets.
