England won the first day-night Test in England

England defeated West Indies in the first day-night Test in England on this same day in 2017.

Joe Root’s side took 19 wickets to beat the tourists by an innings and 209 runs on day three at Edgbaston.

West Indies, England’s 514 for 8 declared, 44 for an overnight, were bowled out for 168 and 137 runs.

“We were relentless on a wicket that took a bit of work,” England captain Root said.

“When you have the caliber of (Stuart) Broad, (James) Anderson and others, it will be difficult for the opposition.

“Now we have a bonus day for guys to put their feet up.”

Broad took 3 for 34 in the second innings, overtaking Sir Ian Botham to become England’s second-highest Test wicket-taker.

The West Indies had not won a Test in England for 17 years and surrendered under overcast skies that favored the bowling conditions.

They have lost 19 wickets in a single day in Test cricket.

West Indies leveled the three-match series with a five-wicket win at Headingley.

But Ben Stokes took six in the first innings and James Anderson seven in the second as West Indies’ batting frailty was again exposed as England were bowled out for 123 and 177 as England won the final at Lord’s by nine wickets.
