England teams chase World Cup glory on multiple fronts

A big week is approaching for England’s teams, as the cricket, rugby and rugby world cup finals reach their final stages.

England secured a place in the men’s T20 World Cup semi-finals on Saturday after beating Sri Lanka by four wickets in Sydney to finish second in their Super 12 group. Jose Butler’s side will face India in the quarter-finals. At the Adelaide Oval on Thursday, he is vying for the right to face New Zealand or Pakistan in the Melbourne final on Sunday. The match against India starts at 8am UK time and can be watched on Sky Sports. England won the competition in 2010 and was runner-up in 2016.

Saturday also saw the English men’s rugby league team qualify for the quarter-finals of the World Cup it is hosting, winning in the quarter-finals against Papua New Guinea in Wigan 46-6. The second final in a row, they face Samoa at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday at 2.30 pm (BBC One) – A team defeated 60-6 in the opening group stage. The Australian and New Zealand champions face each other in the other half the day before on Eland Road, while the final takes place at Old Trafford on November 19. On Wednesday against Papua New Guinea in Headingley and Ireland at Copper Box Arena, respectively.

They are now ready to go head-to-head with hosts and defending champions New Zealand in the replay of the 2017 final in a bid to win the tournament for the third time.
