A computer economist gives a lecture on development

To celebrate nearly seven decades of founding, the Federation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism of Maranhão (Fecomércio-MA), on Friday morning (26th), will bring together the state’s business entities in an event to discuss topics for the advancement of the sector based on innovation. The event will formalize a charter to promote trade in the country.

Starting at 10 a.m., union leaders and economists will be welcomed by the lecture “Scenarios for economic development, through innovation,” given by Guilherme Mercés, Head of Economics at the National Federation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC). The event will be at the Fecomércio / Sesc / Senac Condominium, on Avenida do Holhes, in Calhau.

In addition to celebrating the start of proceedings on the anniversary of the Fecomércio, the lecture is part of the programming agenda to celebrate the 168th anniversary of the foundation of the Maranhão Trade Association (ACM). The proposal is to increasingly introduce the subject of Trade 4.0, disruptive practices and the adoption of new technologies that can allow the development of the sector in Maranhão.

In this sense, Guilherme Mercês presents himself as an interlocutor to stir up local debates on the subject. The speaker holds a Master’s degree in Economics from UERJ, with executive training from Oxford University (UK), Columbia University (USA) and INSEAD (France). He also served as Minister of Finance and Chief Economist at Ferjan. He is currently the Head of Economics and Innovation at CNC.

Trade Committee – As part of the program for the twenty-sixth session, Fecomércio and the business entities that make up the State Production Pool will sign the terms of commitment to establish the Trade Commission. This front of trade development is the result of bringing business entities closer to the sector, seeking to enhance the representation and interests of entrepreneurs.

In May of this year, Guilherme Garcês gave an interview to CNC Portal in which he spoke about his passion for innovation. Follow:

When did your passion for innovation begin?

Four years ago, when I became part of projects in the region, including consulting for start-ups. Innovation is a passion, because it is in everything we do. Innovation includes planning, synergy and implementation. We never live in the same place

    Does innovation help economic activity?

yes! Economy and innovation go hand in hand, and will increasingly go hand in hand. The great technological and transformational leaps that will be crucial to the resumption of economic growth in Brazil and in the world will come through the Partnership for Economy and Innovation. In the coming years, the world will witness more transformations. In addition to looking at the economy, it is important for companies to think long-term, looking for solutions that add innovation and save resources.

How can innovation help the goods, services and tourism trade sectors?

We need to pay close attention to three important fronts: first, using artificial intelligence to better understand customer behavior, leveraging marketing tools and increasing sales; Second, clean energy-based logistics; The third is retail banking, i.e., the retail itself will offer financial products and services to customers, in order to retain them with new solutions that add to their lives.

What are your expectations for CNC Transforma?

CNC Transforma has established four pillars in its innovation strategy, to listen to the people who matter most, CNC fields, unions and unions. This was necessary to inculcate a culture of innovation. We want to continue this work, using the CNC Transforma architecture to reach the end
