From their base in the eastern Mediterranean, the RAF Typhoons conducted air combat exercises with French Air Force and Air Force Rafale fighter jets.

This week, the Typhoons 903 Expeditionary Air Wing in Cyprus conducted a joint exercise with the French Air Force and Rafale multipurpose fighter jets based in the Middle East. Supported the fighters by conducting bilateral air-to-air combat exercises in the southeastern Mediterranean, refueling 903 from the Expeditionary Air Wing and air from the RAF Voyager.

“Today it is very useful in improving the ability of the two countries to provide a combat response to a contingent situation. This is a great opportunity to further enhance the capability between the two Air Forces flying different types of aircraft. Sends a strong strategic message. – Wing Commander Hollande, Official Commandant Da 903 Expeditionary Air Wing.

Prior to closing for visual combat training (dog fighting), the aircraft practiced the use of simulated long-range missiles based on radar surveillance of opposing warplanes. The RAF provided aerial training from the air to extend flight time for Voyager tanker aircraft so that they could repeat the training to further enhance their capabilities.
