Brazil and UK discuss strengthening cooperation in science and technology – Portuguese (Brazil)

The Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation and officials of the United Kingdom Embassy in Brazil held a meeting in Brasilia (DF) on Monday (1st) to discuss expanding scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries. The MCTI Minister highlighted the following knowledge areas as priorities for bilateral cooperation: Health and Life Sciences; agriculture and sustainable food production; Biodiversity and Bioeconomy; Climate Science and Clean Energy; Innovation and Artificial Intelligence.

The representative of the United Kingdom Embassy thanked for the partnership already established between the countries and in particular gave the opportunity to promote the “Sevening Scholarships” program, which provides scholarships to students from more than 160 countries (including Brazil) in the United Kingdom. , with registrations from August 2 to November 2. Chevening offers scholarships for one-year postgraduate programs at a number of UK universities. The program already covers 50,000 scholarships worldwide. In Brazil, about 2,000 people have already received scholarships. It was also highlighted that the country’s Science and Technology Council is working closely with the Brazilian government to help startups in particular. While the country has a different tax environment for companies working with innovations and intellectual property, companies can get tax breaks under the UK Patent Box initiative.
