Flevia Morris: “There are approximately 6000 types of rare disease.”

The House of Representatives Health Committee has installed two permanent sub -groups. One of them will deal with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other neurological conditions; And other rare diseases.

Topics were discussed in one sub -committee, but after the approval of the report, it was found that the topics require more attention due to their complexity.

In an interview with Radio Câmara, the PDT-GLE FLA, who chaired the sub-committee, stressed the importance of dealing with issues separately.

“Autism has had a significant increase, and therefore the need for diagnosis, multiple professional teams, access to education and procedures. Likewise, rare diseases, as its name, rare, reaches a fewer people, but requires more special attention.

The relationship of the former sub-committee, MP-Arouda (MDB-PE), indicates that the agency has sought to involve parliamentarians, the federal government, civil society entities, patients, health and education specialists to discuss points such as early diagnosis, access to treatments and medicines, comprehensive education, employment, and neonatal images.

“In public listening sessions and in the receiving documents, he found the insistence of SUS measures in specialized care that guarantee global and continuous access to basic treatments and products and combat regional inequality.

    Health plans
The performance of health plans also worries about deputies, especially with regard to the consultations and treatments needed for people in the autism spectrum. Flevia Morris explains that operators are trying to reduce the number of care, which does not make sense for patients.

“There is no limit. Everyone has a fact, an individual development that must be respected in treatment. Whoever is able to know if there are 10 sessions, 20 sessions, 5 sessions, are the doctor. The health plan should give this coverage according to the medical indication.”

I mentioned that health plans often complain of insufficient resources, but they do not agree. He said: “The logic of health insurance is crossed, so some patients pay and do not use it, and others use them. Therefore, they have conditions for ensuring care, to ensure the coverage that the patient needs.”

Flevia Morris also highlighted the importance of early diagnosis and psychological and social support for mothers and nervous providers.

Last year, the House of Representatives Health Committee approved five draft laws dealing with ASD and rare diseases, and there are about 300 proposals on issues awaiting parliamentarians.
