According to official sources, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Argentina called the British Ambassador Kirsty Hayes in Buenos Aires last Tuesday (06) and “categorically rejected” the intention of the United Kingdom to carry out exercises and “introduced new” military actors in the Malvinas.

The folder quoted in a recently released news release states that “Kosovo’s legislature has decided to deploy seven members of the Kosovo Security Force (KBS) to the Falkland Islands” in accordance with an agreement signed in a “peace support operation” by the United Kingdom to integrate KBS members into the British infantry forces in the Falkland Islands.

Guillermo Carmona, Secretary of Argentina’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Malvinas, Antarctica and the South Atlantic, and Clado Rosenquick, Argentina’s Undersecretary for Foreign Policy, gave a formal note of protest to the British ambassador and announced a military attempt. The United Kingdom creates an “unnecessary power”.

According to Argentine officials, the British initiative also meant “deliberate abandonment of appeals of several resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly and other international forums for the sovereignty dispute over the Malvinas Islands.

The Argentine delegation also highlighted that the military initiative contravenes UN General Assembly Resolution 31/49, which urges Argentina and the United Kingdom to refrain from taking unilateral decisions regarding the Malvinas. It was won by the British in 1982.

The statement underscored that “an additional territorial military presence in the islands is categorically against the permanent desire of the Argentine Republic to resolve the dispute by peaceful means, in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.”
