Apple is considering acquiring the rights to English football, according to Bloomberg

On Thursday, Bloomberg News reported, citing informed sources, that Apple is considering requesting rights to broadcast a series of English football matches.

The report said the rights under consideration would allow Apple to show Premier League matches in the UK and lower-league matches in the English Football League.

Last year, Major League Soccer and Apple TV announced a partnership to stream every game on the app for the next decade.

The move is also part of Apple’s attempt to promote its Apple TV+ streaming service, known for events like “Ted Lasso” and “The Morning Show.”

The company plans to spend $1 billion annually to produce films that will be shown in theaters, according to another Bloomberg report Thursday.

The report said that Apple has approached the movie studios about partnering to release some titles in theaters this year and a bunch of more movies to come.

Apple did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment on the news and the English Premier League declined to comment.
