Amazon has launched a new delivery system in the UK that promises to be eco-friendly as well as practical. Now, the retailer will use a kind of electric tuk-tuk to deliver goods to customers in specific London neighborhoods.
The initiative is part of what Amazon calls a “micromobility hub.” The location will have solar panels to power these electric delivery vehicles and will also be a kind of delivery man headquarters. All these reduce emissions.
According to Amazon, 1 million packages will be delivered in this mode. Apart from tuk-tuks and electric bikes, couriers can also serve on foot depending on the distance. The base of all will be the Hackney neighborhood of London.
If this experience works, the company should open more centers in other parts of the city. However, there is no forecast for the use of these tuk-tuks in other countries. It should be noted that Amazon already has some electric vans in both the United Kingdom and the United States.
Amazon’s climate goal is that by 2030, half of its deliveries will be carbon neutral.
