Airbus officially announced a project to manufacture aircraft with a transparent roof, in addition to larger and panoramic windows, during the… Indoor Aircraft Show, the world’s leading aircraft interior design exhibition. The event took place from Tuesday to Thursday (6-8 June 2023) in Hamburg, Germany.

The idea is to reduce the weight of the aircraft by up to 40% and have zero carbon emissions by using recycled products, such as polymers and bio-based materials, with cabins in a circular shape. The novelties should start running in the year 2035.

The Airbus project is divided into implementation phases:

  • By 2025: to supply “full transparency” on the environmental impact of aviation parts and operations;
  • by 2030: reduce carbon footprint by testing new cabin models built with recyclable materials, as well as beginning to pull out older cabins;
  • From 2035: Implementation of aircraft with circular cabins powered by hydrogen so as to eliminate carbon emissions.
