The mysterious structures in the sky that have intrigued astronomers for decades can finally be explained.

The structure of the North Polar Spur (North Polar Spur) and the Fan District, on opposite sides of the sky, may be connected by an extensive system of magnetized leads. This forms a tunnel-like structure revolves around the solar systemAnd many nearby stars.

The North Polar Spur is a huge ridge of hot gas, X-rays, and radios that rise above the galactic plane and begin near the galaxy. Sagittarius It extends to the constellations of Scorpio and Wolf. The other structure, called Fan District, is similar and is located on the other side of the sky.

“If we looked at the sky, we would see this tunnel-shaped structure in almost every direction, that is, if we had eyes that could see radio light,” He said Astronomer Jennifer West of the University of Toronto in Canada.

Researchers have known about these two structures since the 1960s, but they were difficult to understand. This is because it is really hard to know exactly how far they are; distances ranging from hundreds to thousands of light years, progress Gate Science Alert.

However, no analysis linked the two structures to each other. The Canadian astronomer and her team were able to show that the two regions and the radio signals in the space between them can be interconnected, thus solving many problems associated with both regions. Using modeling and simulations, the researchers discovered what the sky would look like in radio waves if the two were linked by magnetic strands.

Dunlap Institute astronomer Dr. Jennifer West has discovered that Earth may be surrounded by what she describes as a magnetic tunnel.

Dr.. Jennifer West, an astronomer at the Dunlap Institute, has discovered that Earth could be surrounded by what she describes as a magnetic tunnel. The tunnel can be seen on radio waves.

With this, the team was able to determine that the most likely distance from Earth to these structures in the solar system is about 350 light-years, which is consistent with other estimates based on data from the Gaia mission. The tunnel, designed by West and his entire team, is about 1,000 light-years long.

Further work is needed to confirm the results, and then model the structure in more detail.

The team plans to do more complex modeling, but suggests that higher-resolution observations should help reveal hidden details that show how the structure fits within the context of the larger galaxy.

“Magnetic fields do not exist in isolation. They must all relate to each other. So the next step is to better understand how this local magnetic field is so much related to The magnetic field of the galaxy So are the smaller magnetic fields of our sun and Earth.”

He concluded: “I think it’s amazing to imagine that these structures are everywhere, whenever we look at the night sky.”
