    Investing.com – United Kingdom stocks were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , and , and sectors propelled shares lower.

    At the London close, the index lost 0.04%.

    The best performers of the session on the index came from shares of Coca Cola HBC AG (LON: ), which surged 3.06% or 84.00 points to trade at 2,826.00 at the close of the session. Meanwhile, BAE Systems plc ( LON: ) added 2.12% or 28.00 points to end the day at 1,348.00 and GSK plc ( LON: ), which was up 2.07% or 33.50 points to end at 1,651.50.

    The worst performers of the session were stocks Antofagasta PLC (LON: ), which declined 5.97% or 114.00 points to trade at 1,796.50 at the close. JD Sports Fashion PLC ( LON: ) declined 4.05% or 5.80 points to end at 137.30 and NatWest Group PLC ( LON: ) shed 3.26% or 11.40 points to 338.00 .

    Decliners outnumbered advancers on the London Stock Exchange by 1009 to 741, while 727 ended unchanged.

    Gold futures for December delivery were down 0.48%, or 12.30, at $2,540.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere, crude for delivery in October fell 1.01%, or 0.76, to $74.77 a barrel, while Brent crude for delivery in November fell 1.03%, or 0.81, to $77.85 a barrel.

    GBP/USD fell 0.52% to 1.32 and EUR/GBP was down 0.02% to 0.84.

    Dollar index futures were down 0.51% at 100.96.
