    Hamas said, on Saturday (27), that it would consider a counter-proposal from Israel for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, with the release of the hostages.

    Khalil Al-Hayya, the second man in the political wing of the Hamas movement in Gaza, said in a statement, “Today, Hamas received the official response from the Zionist occupation to our position, which it sent to the Egyptian and Qatari mediators on April 13.”

    He added, “The movement will study this proposal and will send its response as soon as it completes its study.”

    On April 13, Hamas announced that it had sent mediators in response to Israel's first truce proposal in Gaza, insisting on the need for a permanent ceasefire.

    Without explicitly rejecting the content of the Israeli proposal, Hamas reaffirmed its “demands”:

    • Permanent ceasefire;
    • The withdrawal of Israeli forces from the entire Gaza Strip;
    • The return of displaced persons to their areas and places of residence;
    • – Intensifying the entry of humanitarian aid.

    Israel in particular opposes a permanent ceasefire and calls for a cessation of fighting for several weeks. Then the state could, for example, carry out a ground operation in the city of Rafah, south of Gaza.

    The Israeli government also refuses to withdraw its soldiers from all Palestinian territories.

    The latest Israeli counter-proposal, the content of which was not leaked, was sent after an Egyptian delegation visited the country on Friday (26). The group's goal is to resume negotiations in order to reach a truce and release the hostages.
