Food company JBS announced, on Thursday (11), the resumption of operations at its broiler hatchery located in the city of Rolandia, Paraná. The poultry “nursery”, responsible for 12% of the chicks produced by Seara, received an investment of R$ 135 million for recovery and modernization, after a fire occurred in the unit in 2023.
The site is described as the largest and most technologically advanced hatchery in the country, with the capacity to incubate more than 16 million fertilized eggs per month, and occupies an area of 16,314 square metres. The Rolandia hatchery will serve the municipalities in northern Paraná, namely the cities of Campo Morão, Santo Inacio and Jaguapeta, but is able to serve other units, if necessary.
It is expected to become operational in the second half of February, and the space was completed in 10 months. When activities resume, the unit will have 155 employees.
Incubation
The eggs, which are incubated in one stage, are laid and removed from the machines at the same time during each incubation cycle. This process allows all machines to be cleaned and disinfected at the end of each procedure, raising the level of process quality. The hatchery has greater environmental control, which favors embryo development. The hatchery also has a climate control room, an alarm system and environmental monitoring, with cameras located throughout the unit.
In addition, fire-fighting equipment was installed. According to Seara's Executive Director of Agricultural Sustainability, Vamiré Luiz Sens Júnior, the reconstruction focused on bringing in a modern operation. “In addition to process improvements, incubation operations located closer to farms reduce the time it takes to transport eggs and chicks, resulting in better service for our integrated partners,” he says.
With the installation of a reverse osmosis process, which filters water using its own devices to retain particles and physical and microbiological contaminants, the unit will also save about 200,000 liters of water per month with distilled water used in the incubation processes.
