The idea of the initiative is to make museums safe and inclusive spaces for LGBTQIAP+ people.
Museums England has launched a new scheme. Cultural venues have been provided with new guidelines on how to provide a safe and inclusive experience for children with disabilities.
Entitled “Trans Inclusive Culture: Guidelines for Advancing Trans Inclusion for Museums, Galleries, Archives and Heritage Institutions”, the 44-page guidebook describes how museums should be places where trans children go and want to go.
The guide, published by the University of Leicester in England, aims to encourage museums to allow children to explore their gender identity in a light and positive way.
The Research Center for Museums and Galleries (RCMG) recommended that venues and staff wear signs, flags and badges so that children can explore their identities without fear of reprimand.
The manual recommends that museums should have bathrooms and changing rooms that people can use according to their gender and that staff should be careful not to use offensive language.
