Finance Minister Fernando Haddad, after handing over the new fiscal framework to Congress, stated that the rule would balance public accounts and advocated for cuts in financial relief.

Haddad spoke to the press after a meeting, in which the text was delivered, with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, other ministers, the President of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL) and the Vice-President of the Senate, Veneziano Vitale. do Rego (MDB-PB).

“It is a change in the rule, in my opinion, that comes to improve public administration. We have, in addition to the rule itself, a set of measures to ensure fiscal balance next year, and then a tax reform that will ensure the long-term sustainability of the fiscal base of the Brazilian state,” said the minister.

Haddad also stressed the need to reduce tax breaks, noting that “this country’s agenda has been on the agenda for many years” to ensure a more sustainable economy.

“We have tax exemptions worth R$600 billion in the federal budget. We want to review a quarter of this exemption to ensure the country’s fiscal sustainability,” he explained.

Haddad continued, “Every needless tax concession is another person who goes hungry, it’s a person without day care, it’s a person without a doctor, it’s a person without medicine at the health center. That’s what we don’t want to pursue.”

In the interview, the minister also defended the primary surplus rules.

“We took this out of the spending rule specifically to ensure that spending will always lag behind revenue, in a sustainable way, and that if fiscal targets are not met, you have a decrease in the speed of spending growth in relation to revenue. It’s a mechanism that can work well,” Haddad said. very if the entire agenda is met.”
