    DrAccording to a study by the environmental non-governmental organization (NGO) Greenpeace, the road between Lisbon and Tires – the shortest in the country – rose one place, from 2021 to 2022, in the carbon intensity table recording emissions of 108.68 kilograms. of carbon dioxide (CO2) per kilometer, in a total of 118 private flights to cover a distance of 20.37 kilometers between the capital’s airport and the one on the outskirts of Lisbon.

    At the top of the carbon intensity table, which analyzes routes with more than ten trips a year, is the route between Farnborough and Blackbushe, in the UK, with 13 trips recorded in 2022 covering 7.41km which produced 240.23kg of CO2. per kilometer.

    Last year, 7,994 private jets departed from Portugal, an 81% increase compared to 2021, which emitted a total of 65.32 tonnes of CO2 (98% more than the previous year), resulting in an average of 8.2 tonnes of CO2. carbon dioxide. per kilometer, which is equivalent to 32,000 kilometers in a petrol car.

    Faro remains the airport with the most number of private flights, with 2,684 flights recorded, with London being the main destination, and the route with the most number of departing and arriving flights to Lisbon.

    Lisbon and Porto, respectively, ranked second and third with 1,784 and 1,521 flights, with London being the main destination in both cases.

    The number of private jet trips increased by 64% in Europe over the same period and carbon dioxide emissions more than doubled, according to Greenpeace.

    In 2022, the NGO revealed, France, UK and Germany topped the chart for trips on private jets, with Nice (France), Paris and Geneva (Switzerland) being the three main destinations.
