    National airports handled 4.1 million passengers in November, up 31.3% year-on-year, surpassing 2019 for the second consecutive month before the pandemic. revealed This Friday the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

    According to Rapid Aviation Statistics, “In November 2022, national airports handled 4.1 million passengers and 19,300 tons of cargo and mail, year-on-year variations of +31.3% and +0.2% respectively”.

    November marked the second consecutive month in which passenger movements surpassed 2019 levels, with growth of 3%, after a 4% rise recorded in October, before the Covid-19 pandemic.

    During the month under review, the national airports recorded a daily average of 65,600 passengers as against 90,700 in the previous month and 64,200 from the figure seen in November 2019.

    Of the passengers disembarking in November 2022, 80.3% were for international traffic (79.9% in the same month of 2021), mostly from the European continent (66.6% of the total), while 81.8% corresponded to international traffic (81.5% in November 2021), the main destination Airports in continental Europe (68.8% of total).

    From January to November last year, compared to the same period in 2021, the number of passengers handled increased by 129.8%, but was 6.2% lower than that recorded in the same period in 2019.

    The United Kingdom was the main source of flights, with 228.8% growth in the number of passengers disembarking and 228.1% growth in the number of passengers boarding.
