He had to have an ostomy bag placed (which collects the contents of the stool) and already has new surgeries scheduled for next year. He still needed mechanical ventilation, but now he can breathe unaided, which is a win.
“We hope to bring him home in a few months,” said the mother. “I feel a little lost now that he’s not home,” she says. The boy will remain in the hospital until his expected delivery on February 9, 2023.
According to the Daily Mail newspaper, hospital bosses apologized to the family for the “distress and worry caused”. “We would like to send our congratulations to our mother and family on the birth of Oakley and wish her the best during her long childbirth journey,” the hospital said in a statement.
In October, Sarah Hollins, director of midwifery at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “On behalf of the trust, I would like to offer my sincere apologies for the distress and anxiety you have experienced during your current pregnancy.”
