At least one person was killed on Thursday and nine others wounded in a Ukrainian attack on the city of Donetsk, which Russia-imposed governor Alexei Kolymzin described as the biggest bombing in the city since 2014, pro-Russian officials said.

“As a result of shelling by Ukrainian armed formations from Donetsk, the Voroshilov and Kiev regions, nine civilians were injured and one person was killed,” Russia said in September.

As the Russian governor of the city wrote on the Telegram channel for messages, the attack began at 07:00 local time (04:00 in Lisbon), and constituted “the largest attack since 2014”. He said that Ukraine fired 40 missiles “against civilians from multiple launchers BM-21 Grad”.

Kolymzin added, quoting “eyewitnesses”, that fires and damage were caused to tall buildings due to the shock waves, as well as to the university campus, a nursery school and the dome of the Transfiguration Cathedral.

A woman was rescued from the rubble of an apartment building, according to the self-proclaimed Donetsk Republic’s Emergencies Ministry.

According to the ministry, at least eight residential buildings were damaged, in addition to a commercial center, student housing, and four cars.

About two hours later, Ukrainian forces also reportedly fired six 155mm shells at the Kyiv and Kuibyshev districts in eastern Donetsk, which have been controlled by Russian forces since 2014.
