The coronavirus epidemic has caused at least 2929,563 deaths worldwide since the WHO office in China reported the outbreak in December 2019, according to a balance sheet prepared by Agence France-Presse on Sunday (11) at 07:00 AM Brasilia time, with according to official sources.

Since the start of the epidemic, more than 1,353,602,240 people have been infected with the disease. The vast majority of infected people recover, but the portion that remains poorly assessed keeps symptoms at bay for weeks or even months.

The figures are based on reports that the health authorities in each country send daily and exclude corrections made later by various agencies, such as Russia, Spain and the United Kingdom.

Last Saturday, the world recorded 12860 new deaths and 703283 cases. The countries with the most deaths according to the most recent official balance sheets are Brazil with 2,616, Mexico (2,192) and India (839).

The death toll in the United States has reached 561,783 due to 31,151,493 infections.

After the United States, the countries that recorded the largest number of deaths are Brazil, with 351,334 deaths for 13445,006 cases, Mexico with 209,212 deaths (2,278,420 cases), India with 169,275 deaths (13,358,805 cases) and the United Kingdom with 127,080 deaths (4,368,045) status).

Among the countries most affected, the Czech Republic has the highest mortality rate, with 260 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by Hungary (240), Bosnia (222), Montenegro (217) and Bulgaria (206).

This Sunday at 07:00 (Brasilia) and since the beginning of the epidemic, Europe has recorded 995904 deaths (46239235 cases), Latin America and the Caribbean 829491 (26155.031), the United States and Canada 585.064 (32202.350), Asia 284.283 (19440404), the Middle East 118,368 (6,940,672), Africa 115,448 (4,342,503), and Oceania 1,005 (40,053).

Since the start of the pandemic, the number of tests performed has increased dramatically and screening techniques have improved, causing an increase in reported cases.

However, the number of cases diagnosed only reflects a fraction of the total number of infections, because less severe and asymptomatic cases remain undetected.

This assessment was carried out using data from national authorities collected by AFP offices and information from the World Health Organization.

Due to corrections by the authorities or a delay in publishing the data, the increase in the numbers published in 24 hours may not fully correspond to the figures from the previous day.
