LISBON, March 6 (Reuters) – Passengers flying indirectly from England or Brazil to Portugal must submit a negative Covit-19 test taken 72 hours before departure and be isolated for two weeks starting Sunday, the Interior Ministry said. On Saturday.
The move seeks to close a gap that allowed travelers from the United Kingdom and Brazil to reach Portugal.
Direct commercial or private flights to the UK and Brazil have been banned since January to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Direct humanitarian and return flights will still be approved, but passengers must submit a negative COVID-19 test taken 72 hours prior to departure and adhere to 14-day isolation.
The activities will be reviewed on March 16.
Portugal’s Tourism Minister told the BBC on Friday that London had lifted the ban on international travel since May 17, believing the country to have tested negative for British tourists or to prove COVID – 19 immunity.
Portugal, which has reported 808,405 Govt-19 cases and 16,486 deaths so far, will begin deregulation next week, following a devastating prison sentence next week.
