The news that made headlines on European sports websites on Thursday (4/21) was the announcement of Lewis Hamilton and Serena Williams joining the partnership that wants to buy Chelsea.

According to Sky Sports, the dominant pay-TV sports brand in the UK and Ireland, the driver and tennis player will pay £10m each and join businessman Martin Broughton in his quest to join the English club.

The final offer is in the range of 2.5 billion pounds (15 billion Brazilian riyals). Hamilton has won seven Formula 1 championships while Williams has won 23 Grand Slam championships, which is the four best tennis championships.

Broughton served as president of British Airways, as well as English club Liverpool. The English driver will not have an official position within the club, but will work to promote “diversity, equality and inclusion”.

To this limit, Roman Abramovich, owner of Chelsea FC, did not accept any offers. Reflecting Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Abramovich put the club up for sale in March. The Blues have been subject to government sanctions for their relationship with Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia.
