LONDON (Reuters) – Three UK oil companies, including ExxonMobil, have won a restraining order to quell protests by climate activists this month, the UK government said on Friday.

Environmental groups such as Extinction Rebellion and Just Stop Oil have been staging daily protests in London and across the country, mainly focusing on oil facilities.

Navigator Thames, ExxonMobil and Valero have been banned by the UK’s Commerce Department to minimize disruptions and avoid further complications.

“We respect the right to peaceful protests, but it is important that they do not disrupt the daily lives of the people,” said Energy Minister Greg Hands.

“That’s why I’m glad to see oil companies taking steps to get restraining orders on their sites, and I’m glad to see them working with law enforcement to arrest violators, and fuel distribution continues as usual.”
