Who is Kim Yo Jong, the “mysterious sister” of the North Korean leader?
Often described as “mysterious”, she often appears alongside her brother, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Looking more behind the scenes, Kim Yo Jong succeeded in making the spotlight this week by declaring that Pyongyang would respond with nuclear weapons if South Korea launched a preemptive strike.
“If South Korea chooses a military confrontation with us, our nuclear combat force will inevitably have to do its part.”
The statement came after South Korean Defense Minister Suh Wook said his country was capable of attacking North Korea’s missile launch points – sparking an angry reaction.
Pyongyang has tested several missiles this year, raising tensions between the two countries.
But what do we know about Kim Jong-un’s younger sister, who is perhaps the most powerful woman in North Korea?
In this video, you’ll learn a little bit about Kim Yo-jong, who has a key role in North Korea’s one-party propaganda department and is an alternate member of the Politburo, the party’s executive committee.
