    the EcuadorThe Ministry of Health, the seventh Latin American country with more deaths due to the coronavirus pandemic, has announced mandatory vaccination against COVID-19, due to the presence of the omicron variant.

    The authorities have made it clear that antiviral immunization will not be mandatory, however, for people who have any medical contraindications, which must provide evidence.

    The Ministry of Health said that the decision is based on the constitution, which states that health is a right that must be guaranteed by the state.

    The volume notes that the Basic Health Law indicates that the Executive has the power to “declare the commitment of vaccinations against certain diseases, according to the terms and conditions required by the national and local epidemiological realities.”

    About 69% of the population of 17.7 million Ecuador Received the complete two-dose vaccine schedule. In addition, 900,000 people also received the booster dose.

    To combat the surge in cases after the omicron variant was discovered a week ago, the state imposed a requirement to present a vaccination card to enter public events, restaurants, malls, cinemas and theatres. It also reduced the maximum capacity in these spaces to 50%.
