55% of Rampage sales in Brazil are gasoline

During the Interlagos Festival, Stellantis announced the first editions of the frenzy in Brazil. The medium pickup truck is produced in Guyana, Pernambuco, and more than 5,000 orders have already been collected within 30 days of pre-sale. Surprisingly, however, most orders were placed for the petrol version.

According to an official statement from the automaker, 55% of pre-orders taken as of June 22 were taken with models with the 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine. The engine is called Hurricane 4, with 272 horsepower and 40.8 kg / m of torque. The greater preference for the motor can be justified by some factors.

The end of diesel?

The first is that it is much more powerful than the 2.0 MultiJet II turbodiesel that is also available in the Rampage and will only be available on 45% of pre-ordered models. With the diesel, the truck delivers 170 horsepower and 38.8 kg/m of torque. Both engines are mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission and 4×4 traction.

Another factor that contributes to the Rampage’s more gasoline sales than diesel models is the number of versions. In all, there are three petrol variants versus two diesels. The Laramie and Rebel versions have both engines, but the R/T Sport only has the new engine. The reckoning will soon be balanced with the new Big Horn which will only have diesel.

Finally, there’s the fact that many buyers already know that the 2.0 turbo diesel has an expiration date. It has already been removed from the Jeep Renegade and will not soon be offered on the Jeep Compass and Fiat Toro. For the Ram Rampage and Jeep Commander, Stellantis will adopt a new, more powerful 2.2 turbo diesel engine.

3500 Queen of Rams

Another announcement made by the brand during the Interlagos Festival is that 5,000 trucks have already been sold this year. The brand’s goal was to reach this size only after the launch of the Rampage, which would be its all-national mass-production model.

However, the goal had previously only been achieved with the giant classics, the 1500, 2500 and 3500. In this year’s backlog, Ram’s best-selling pickup truck in Brazil was the 3500 with 2,164 registrations, according to Finabraf. This means that the largest accounts for almost half of the brand’s sales in a year.

In second place is Classic with 1,087 units sold, followed by 1,500 with 757 units sold and Close with 2,500 with 612 new buyers in 2023 through the end of June. It is noteworthy that in this year’s backlog, Ram is the 16th best-selling brand in Brazil and is about to pass BMW, which has 6,365 registered units.
