Ukraine sinks its largest warship to prevent it from falling into the hands of Russia | Ukraine and Russia

The Ukrainian Navy has sunk its largest warship, the partially dismantled frigate Hetman Shaidachny, in the town of Mykolaiv, near the Black Sea coast.

It was impossible to install it and restore its combat ability in time to confront the Russians.

According to the local Dumskaya website, Ukrainian intelligence obtained information that a special operation was planned by the Moscow Naval Special Forces to capture Hetman Sahaidachny.

Therefore, the order was given that in the event of an attack, the hull was carefully filled with water, supporting the ship to the bottom of the river where the repaired shipyard was located.

“The commander of the Ukrainian Navy carried out the order to sink the ship Hetman Sagedashny, which was under repair so that it would not be captured by the enemy. It is difficult to imagine a more difficult decision for a brave warrior and his entire team. But we will build a new, modern and powerful fleet. The important thing now is resistance,” said the Minister Defense Oleksiy Reznikov in a Facebook post on Friday (4).

Now, to raise the ship, the Russian invaders will have to carry out a long operation, which is very difficult in hostile conditions. In the future, in theory, the frigate will be able to restore buoyancy and repair work can proceed.

Hetman Sahaidachny was the only large ship of Ukraine Which remained after the Russians annexed Crimea and seized many Ukrainian ships.

The Russians are ahead of Mykolaiv

Russian forces advance to take control of the port city of Mykolaiv, a key point in Russia’s attempt to gain control of the Black Sea coast of Ukraine.

Mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Senkevich, said in an interview on Thursday that Russian forces that captured the southern town of Kherson on Wednesday are moving northwest towards his town.
