The company said in a statement that while most of the guests are “respected neighbors and travelers,” it is committed to reducing instances of unauthorized parties. According to Airbnb, these events are condensed into history.

“To this end, we are placing restrictions on certain types of reservations for New Year’s Eve,” she said. “These restrictions will ban one-night reservations from entire home listings for guests who do not have a positive account history – or any previous reservations – on the platform.”

Set to go into effect over the New Year’s Eve weekend, the measure will be applied in 11 countries. According to the portal I.GThe list includes: Brazil, the United States, Canada, France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.

Airbnb also claims that the New Year’s Eve ban was successfully tested in eight other countries early last year. In addition, the measure is part of a broader package the company announced in June this year to ban unwanted parties in all accommodations rented through the platform worldwide.
