Last Tuesday (16), journalist Janina Xavier was the guest of the program. kiss me a lotTo broadcaster Benjamin Back, he talked about his departure from the Globo Group, in May 2022. During the chat, Janina expressed her feeling that she was being expelled. For being “too beautiful”, since the broadcaster chose to hire professionals with “another standard of beauty”.

The statement came after Benja asked whether the guest found the press and television environment difficult for women. “In my opinion, television treats everyone in a disposable way. But for women, it is more difficult, because of their age, their beauty and things like that?” the presenter asked.

Janina Xavier was controversial in her response. “I felt the opposite. For a long time, there was an idea that if a woman had the qualities of a beautiful woman, she would have a certain advantage when entering television and journalism. But in the end I got the opposite. There was a certain moment when I felt like I was treating you like 'you're too beautiful to be here'” she replied.

“You have to include the perfect girl. I'm not saying that perfect people aren't beautiful. They wanted other beauty standards out there. The blonde with the light eyes was no longer useful,” he added.

“They wanted to present different profiles of women. The big-nosed woman, the full-figured woman, even the black woman, which took a long time to achieve. But to bring one in, they exclude the other,” Janina said.

The journalist also stressed that the issue of diversity outweighs merit. “She’s black and she’s white, let’s go black. She’s fat and she’s pretty, let’s go fat. It was just for looks, not because she’s ‘better’ or ‘she’s been here longer.’” He revealed that “pretty is no longer useful.”

Janaína Xavier also spoke about the alleged fight with commentator Anna Thaís Matos. The former world player denied any conflict with Anna Thaís, but confirmed the discussions on social media. Janaína said that there were clashes between the two over feminist issues.

    Janina Xavier's Career

Janina Xavier has been a journalist at Globo for 23 years. Throughout this time, she has worked in different roles as a reporter and presenter. From 2018 to 2022 she was in charge of Sportv News and chose to leave the broadcaster after maternity leave and pursue a new stage in her career.

The journalist, who is now also an entrepreneur, opened her own consulting company and devoted herself to other work as an event host.
