Suarez and Cavani embezzle Uruguay again in the qualifiers

Strikers Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani and defender Sebastian Coates will battle Uruguay in the team’s next three matches in the South American World Cup 2022 qualifiers, according to the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF).

Suarez finished the Atletico Madrid match against Villarreal in the Spanish championship, in which he scored a goal, with “a problem with his left knee and he will have to rest for a week with physical therapy and a gradual restart later”, the Confederation of African Football indicated.

Coates, who plays for current Portuguese champion Sporting, suffers from inflammation in his right knee and is in the process of rehab, according to the organization.

Cavani’s absence is due to the fact that he was not released by Manchester United due to restrictions imposed by the Premier League (the entity that organizes the English Championship) on calls from the countries included in the red list of the United Kingdom due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

To replace these three players, the Uruguayan coach, Oscar Tabarez, called up defender Martin Caceres (formerly Fiorentina, currently without a club) and strikers Federico Martinez (Liverpool-Oro) and Agustin Alvarez Martinez (Pinarol).

Uruguay is fourth in the qualifiers with 8 points, and it will face Peru on Thursday (2) in Lima and then host Bolivia next Sunday (5) and Ecuador on September 9.
