Russia warns Britain of sanctions

The UK announced on Saturday that it was stepping up humanitarian aid to Ukraine by sending more essential equipment to relief centers and hospitals.

The British government said in a statement that it would provide an additional 287 generators to operate relief centers, hospitals, telephone towers and pumping stations. The new generators will be enough to supply the equivalent of about 8,000 homes and be used for essential services in the face of the ongoing disaster in eastern Ukraine.

“Up to 287 mobile generators will be donated by the UK government to hospitals, shelters and other essential services, and will be given more power to act in the face of Russian attacks,” the statement said.

In total, the UK would have supplied 856 generators.

“Putin’s atrocities continue to increase, so we increase our support for the Ukrainian people when they need them.

The UK decision comes at the request of Ukrainian Ambassador Vadim Pristikov, who praised the previous generator ship as “light always overcomes darkness”.

The generators will be delivered to the Polish Government Center. From there, the Ukrainian government and the country’s power grid will distribute generators throughout the country to the most needed locations.

Fossil fuel rules: The UK government has said it will facilitate support for foreign fossil fuels to boost Ukraine’s vital energy supply.

The policy generally prevents the UK from providing new direct support to the fossil energy sector overseas – but the government has said it will introduce two exceptions for Ukraine and Eastern Europe to allow the UK to support the country’s energy and fuel needs.
