Roger Waters is under investigation by German police for wearing a Nazi costume to a concert |  pop art

Bank Floyd co-founder Roger Waters is under investigation by Berlin police for inciting hatred after he donned a Nazi-style uniform at a concert in the German capital.

“We are investigating suspicions of incitement to public hatred because clothing worn on stage could be used to glorify or justify the Nazi regime, thus disturbing public order,” Berlin police spokesman Martin Hallwig told AFP. Investigation this Friday (26).

“The clothes resemble the uniform of an SS officer,” Hallwig added.

Footage posted on social media shows Waters wearing a long black trench coat with red armbands during a May 17 concert at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

It was also reported by German and Israeli media that during the performance, Waters showed on a screen the names of several of the dead, including Anne Frank, a Jewish teenager who died in a Nazi concentration camp, and Shireen Abou Akle, a journalist working with her. A Palestinian and American national from Al Jazeera, who was killed in an Israeli operation in May 2022.

“We are investigating, and after the procedures are over, we will forward the information to the Public Prosecution Office for a final legal evaluation,” the police spokesperson added.

The MP will decide whether the 79-year-old British singer goes to trial.

Waters’ concert in Berlin received much criticism in Israel.

Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, wrote on Twitter: “Waters wants to compare Israel to the Nazis. He is one of the greatest critics of Jews of our time.”

Waters is a well-known pro-Palestinian activist who has been accused of anti-Jewish views. In his performances, he uses an inflatable pig with the Star of David on it. It also calls for a boycott of Israeli products.

Authorities in the German city of Frankfurt canceled a concert by the musician scheduled for May 28, but the decision was overturned by an administrative court in the name of freedom of expression.
