From January onwards, audiences will be able to miss “Renascer”. In the novel written by Bruno Loberi, grandson of Benedetto Rui Barbosa, author of the original plot, which was set 30 years ago, the cocoa plantations served as the backdrop for the saga of José Inocencio, played by Antonio Fagundes in the first version, and in the current one, by Marcos Palmeira.

Marcos’ return to soap operas will be after the remake of “Pantanal” (2022), a series in which he played another Jose, Leoncio. The coincidences between “Renascer” and “Pantanal” go far beyond the same name of the heroes and the place in the interior of Brazil.

The heroes of both pieces own a large estate on which they live with their families. They also have neighbors of questionable character and children who get involved with rival heirs. In the case of “Pantanal,” for example, Leoncio and Tenorio (Murilo Benicio) were enemies, and their heirs Jota (Julia Dalavia) and Tadeo (José Loreto) became closer.

The story is similar to “Renascer”, where Zé Inocêncio hires Teodoro (Vladimir Bryshta) as his tormentor and is the father of Sandra (non-actor) who becomes involved with João Pedro (Juan Paiva).

    Submissive women and revenge

One of the highlights of “Pantanal” is that María Broaca (Isabel Teixeira) was a woman submissive to her husband, even tolerating his infidelities. In “Renascer,” the same type appears in Doña Patroa (Camila Morgado), who suffers at the hands of her sexist husband, Teodoro.

If in “Renascer” Mariana (Teresa Fonseca) seemed to be mysteriously developing her revenge plan, Moda (Bella Campos) also had this intention in “Pantanal.” The caramulhão trapped in the bottle was also discussed extensively in both “Pantanal” and “Renacer.”

    The difference between the plots

If Juma (Alanis Guillén) in “Pantanal” touched the audience’s imagination with his transformation into a jaguar, then the plots in “Renascer” are more realistic, including scenes in large cities, such as Ilheus. Unlike the cattle and tuiuius in the 2022 TV series, audiences will be able to see scenes on cocoa farms and characters trampling fruit on Zé Inocêncio’s farm.

Another highlight of “Renascer” is the story of a priest who struggles over his religious vocation and eventually falls in love with a woman. In the original version, the characters were played by Jackson Costa and Teresa Seblitz. Now, they will be played by Brenno da Matta and Alice Carvalho. In “Pantanal” there was no plot for this forbidden love, and there was not even a priest among the fixed characters of the series.
