welcome everybody,
When the team sat down to discuss what to do in Another day of us This year, thoughts were like: “Has a year passed?!”. After that initial shock, the immediate desire was to sit down and speak directly to you, our community.
Years ago, the love and diversity that The Last of Us showed captured my attention as a fan and reshaped the lens with which I watched games. For the first time, I could see myself reflected in characters who weren’t coded, marginalized, or presented as an afterthought. When Joel and Ellie’s story unfolded, there were tears on my end; Yes, the narrative is beautiful and heartbreaking, but there is also something very poignant and documented about finally seeing meaningful representation in this medium. I know I’m not alone in this feeling. If I’m honest, I think that’s why this franchise is so beloved among you, our community; There is a little of us all analyzed in The Last of Us. It is something special and we guard it very carefully; We in the studio are all humbled by this trust and love.
In June 2020, we expanded the universe of The Last of Us with a new story, a project that took years to build. The Last of Us Part II is now the most awarded game of all time – an achievement we’re constantly proud of and understand in large part due to our incredible fan base. We are always in awe of the support you provide and know our team reads your fan mail, admires the art you make and is touched by the heart that everyone brings to recreate a slice of The Last of Us in their own world.
The Last of Us Day is also an opportunity to thank our incredible team within the studio who trusted the vision and heart of this franchise and made it real – you are the best and the ripple impact of your efforts is leaving lasting traces all over the world..
“Yes, that’s a great and cool naughty dog, but what are you doing with The Last of Us now?”
In short, we’re working on it – we’re seeing community feedback because many of you are demanding multiplayer and want updates. For now, we’ll say we love what the team is developing and want to give them time to build their ambitious project, and we’ll reveal more when they’re finished! To that end, we’ve been busy building our team within the kennel since The Last of Us Part II and are currently hiring multiplayer roles (hint, hint), so if you or someone you know you qualify for anything you see on our careers page, Progress!
In the meantime, another day of us ends. We hope you had as much fun with us today as we did together, and we’ll be taking a closer look at all the epic photos, art, and stories you send us.
with respect,
Rochelle e naughty dog
