the book Capitalism, Austerity, and Public Health in Brazil – A Political Economy PerspectiveOrganized by researchers from Ufes, the United States and the United Kingdom, it will be launched on Monday the 24th, at 1 p.m., in the Ufes Graduate Program Hall in Collegiate Health (PPGSC), on the Maruípe campus. The event is open to the public.
The work was produced through an international collaboration between Professors Carlos Eduardo Sequeira, of the University of Massachusetts Boston, in the United States; Jonathan Phillipon of Queen Mary University and University of London, UK. and Frances Sodry and Maria Angelica Andrade, from PPGSC-Ufes.
The book offers a critical approach to the political economy of capitalism and its effects on the Brazilian health system. “We analyzed health systems affected by the period of economic austerity, which had an impact on the decline of overall health systems in different parts of the world,” Sodré, coordinator of the research project, details. New public administration and the privatization of the public health systems in Brazil and England.
The publication is the result of the activities of the Ufes Institutional Internationalization Program (PrInt-Ufes), funded by the Coordination of Higher Education Personnel Improvement (Capes), which promotes the production of events, conferences and research in partnership with foreign universities.
PPGSC-Ufes cooperation with foreign authors made it possible to offer an elective course based on the topic of the book and personally taught by the four authors. In addition, they will also teach the Global Health elective, April 24-28, from 1 pm to 5 pm, which is open to other graduate programs.
