Pawns of Justice award to Bello in Denilson’s Celebrity Dance

A Sao Paulo judge decided that the fee and award for the singer Belo na Dança dos Famosos, from TV Globo, must undertake to pay off the artist’s debts with former player Denilson, who is now suspended in the Bandeirantes.

The decision was published on Friday by Judge Carlo Melfi, of the Fifth Civil Court of Sao Bernardo do Campo. He decided that an official letter should be urgently issued to be sent to the Rede Globo de Televisão notifying him of the facility. They will appeal, said attorney Marcelo Passos, who is representing Bello.

After the reservation, the judge also decided to appoint an accountant to calculate the exact value of the updated debt, as there is a difference between the two parties. The artist has admitted a debt of around R$4.9 million – an amount updated to June 2021 – while the former player says the amount, in 2019, has already exceeded R$7 million.

For amounts updated for interest and corrections for the period, what Denilson charges is almost double what Belo accepts. For the lawyer of the musician, the ex-musician does not accept the discussion of the value because he made the case personal.

“If Denilson wants it, he can solve it, but it’s personal. He has a problem every hour. All he had to do was accept negotiation proposals with that amount, because what he wanted was twice that amount. Worth R$4.9 million,” said Marcelo Passos.

In response to the last appeal in the process, Bello succeeded, and Rapporteur Silvia Rocha, of the 29th Chamber of Private Law, analyzed that “there appears to be an excess in the sums charged by the appellant (Denilson)”. This is because accounts provided by athletes’ representatives may contain incorrect updates, corrections, and link dates.

Thus, it is up to the court-appointed accountant to calculate and decide on the updated amount of the debt. So far, the account has not been handed over to the court by the responsible person.

This process has already resulted in the musician’s copyright and concert rights being blocked in excess of R$1.7 million. The last of them was at a show with singer Thiaguinho, at Pacaembu Stadium, where Ticket 360 appropriated R$5,000 to the court account related to the operation.

Denilson’s last order was submitted in May. He asked the Fifth Civil Court of São Bernardo do Campo, where the process is taking place, to send an official letter to Rede Globo to block any monetary award or personal property intended for the musician to participate in the Dança dos Famosos.

However, in a response sent to the court, attorney Marcelo Passos, who represents Bello, defended that Denilson wanted to disrupt the process and challenged the request, seeing it as “inappropriate in the face of a lack of liquidity on the outstanding balance”. He requested that the records be finally sent to the accountant appointed by the judge.

The fight between Denilson and Bello has been going on for over 20 years. The former player managed the band Pagoda Soweto, of which the singer was the frontman, but the partnership broke up in 2000, when Bello left the group to launch a solo career. The former player sued the singer for breach of contract. In 2004, Bellew was ordered to pay compensation to the former player.
