In Yokohama, Japan, Paulo Andre, Rodrigo Nascimento, Derek Silva and Jorge Fides won the world titles in the 4x100m relay. The second place went to the United States, which finished the race by only two hundred more than Brazil. Third place went to the United Kingdom.

Three months after winning the World Cup, Paulo Andre won the silver medal in the most noble event in athletics, the 100-meter sprint. The Brazilian completed the race in 10s16, behind American (and race favorite) Mike Rodgers. The bronze went to Sighai Green of Antigua and Barbuda.

Two days after winning the silver, Paulo Andre took another medal for his group.
