Singer Lenny Andrade passed away on Monday (24) in Rio. The 80-year-old artist was hospitalized at the Hospital de Clínicas de Jacaripagua, in the Western Region. The information is confirmed by the advice of Retiro dos Artistas, where Leni lived.

Since her discharge, she has been in home care at the Retiro dos Artistas, but the singer’s health deteriorated over the weekend and she ended up not fighting back.

Born Carioca in the cradle of bossa nova and some samba matrices, Lenny Andrade is a big name in Brazilian music.

Absent from the music scenes due to health reasons, the singer recorded her last song in 2022: the single she recorded with pianist Gelson Piranzetta to celebrate her 80th birthday. The song is a 1957 composition, written by composers Antonio Carlos Jobim and Dolores Duran.

The artist has a total of 34 albums released between 1961 and 2018, highlighting titles such as Sensation (1961) that it We Are Here (1965). Leni was always proud to give voice to the compositions of Brazilian authors and sang Portuguese both inside and outside the country.

She was a great interpreter of such composers as Antonio Carlos Jobim (1927-1994), Djavan, Ivan Lenz and Roberto Menescal, among other geniuses of Brazilian music.
