Kakinoff will continue as a member of Gol’s board of directors. The transition is expected to take place in July, when the CEO will complete ten years at the helm of the company. Celso Guimarães Ferrer Jr., in place of the position, has been with Gol for 17 years, starting out as an apprentice. Ferrer, 39, has a degree in economics and international relations and is also a pilot.

Grupo Abra will be a private company, headquartered in the United Kingdom, with Gol’s founder, Constantino de Oliveira Jr., as CEO, and the board of directors will be chaired by Roberto Crete, co-founder and largest shareholder of Avianca, according to the notice of the agreement. The merger is still awaiting regulatory approval, but the deal is expected to be completed in the second half of this year.

If completed, the agreement should create a new giant of air transport in Latin America. Etihad will create a larger air network for passengers and contribute to reducing operating costs. User costs also tend to fall at a time when prices are escalating due to inflation and higher fuel prices.
