Information released by the international press shows that Google will develop personalized hearing aids using artificial intelligence.
To help with the project, Gigante das Buscas has partnered with specialists from the Macquarie University Hearing Hub, Shepherd Center and NextSense, to develop intelligent cochlear implants capable of reversing deafness.
When asked to talk about the project, Google stated that the use of AI in devices will improve the results obtained, as the AI used can adapt to the needs of each individual user.
Most of the hearing aids currently in use have simple functions, while new and modern devices from Google will even be able to infer sound sources, “teaching” the user’s ear to distinguish them.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which is basically Anvisa in the United States, about 1.5 million Americans currently have a hearing problem. This number could double by 2050.
When observed globally, it is estimated that this problem generates an expenditure of approximately US$980 per year for each person who uses the Public Health Service for treatment of a hearing-related disease.
For Google, this scenario represents a worldwide public health failure and presents yet another challenge for the company. “Because as long as there are barriers, we will have work to do,” the company said in a statement.
