The new economy minister for United kingdomAnd the Nadim Zahawiannounced his candidacy to replace Boris Johnson As Conservative Leader and British Prime Minister this Saturday 9, shortly after Transport Minister Grant Shapps also announced that he would run for office. In the announcement, al-Zahawi promised that if elected, he would cut taxes on families and businesses, increase defense spending and implement educational reforms. Al-Zahawi, a former education minister, last week replaced Rishi Sunak, who resigned as economy minister in protest against the Johnson administration. Al-Zahawi, who is of Iraqi descent, added, “My goal is simple: to give opportunities to my generation, to all Britons, whoever they are and wherever they come from.” Shortly before that, the Minister of Transport announced the candidacy for the Sunday Times newspaper. If chosen, he promised to prepare an emergency budget to deal with inflation, including tax cuts and help for energy-starved businesses.

In addition to Zahawi and Shapps, Sunak has also expressed their willingness to run for Commons Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Tom Tugendhat, Attorney General Suila Braverman and former Equality Minister Kimi Badenouch. In the coming days, other “top” parties are expected to announce their aspirations, including former Health Minister Sajid Javid, current Secretary of State Liz Truss and former Secretary of State Jeremy Hunt. Defense Secretary Ben Wallace, another favorite, ruled out running in Saturday’s primary, saying on Twitter he was focused on keeping the country safe. Next Monday, the influential 1922 Committee of Conservative MPs without portfolios will elect the government and announce the timetable for selecting the new leader. Johnson was forced to resign after more than 50 members of his cabinet left in protest against his administration and the scandals of recent months.
