Call of Duty is one of Activision Blizzard’s most important franchises and with each release, it proves its blockbuster status by ranking among the best-selling titles of the year. However, in terms of performance, it may cause problems for Microsoft and acquisition.
Although Microsoft claims that the Nintendo Switch can run Call of Duty games without any issues, the Competition and Markets Authority disagrees with this claim. According to Exputer, the regulator said in its latest report that Nintendo Switch may not be able to run more graphically advanced games with intense multiplayerlike Call of Duty, due to hardware limitations.
The CMA believes Activision will struggle to offer a competitive experience compared to other current consoles, as well as noting that its below-average storage capacity could be another issue, with Call of Duty games taking up a large portion of HD.
However, it should be noted that Call of Duty has already been a victim of downgrading to run on last generation platforms. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 has arrived on Xbox 360 in a skin edition that has been criticized for its quality. Rumors claim that Call of Duty 2024 will be released for last generation consoles and it is possible that Nintendo Switch will receive a downgraded port or Nintendo will use a cloud solution.
Anyway, the battle between the Competition and Markets Authority and Microsoft has acquired a new chapter.
